Fashion Bursary

Fashion Bursary

Kildare Village is delighted to announce the inaugural Kildare Village Fashion Bursary, a scholarship founded to help a new generation of Irish designers achieve their potential at an international level. The bursary forms a key strand of From the Isle, the exciting and ambitious new project at Kildare Village that weaves together diverse threads of Irish talent across fashion, craft, food and art.

Michael Stewart, one of Irish fashion’s newest stars, will be the first recipient of the €15,000 bursary. An intriguing young designer, Stewart has experienced a meteoric rise; following his graduation from the Limerick School of Art & Design in 2013. The Kildare Village Fashion Bursary will support Stewart’s studies, helping with the crucial material costs and his  graduation show in 2017.

Stewart’s aesthetic is unique, influenced by touchstones from his Irish cultural heritage. With a focus on craft-based processes marked by a strong interdisciplinary approach, the designer is a fitting inaugural recipient of the bursary, his work reflecting the new vibrancy and spirit of innovation characterising Irish design today.

Kildare Village is proud to be a champion of emerging Irish design talent, helping pave the way to a strong native fashion industry.
