Sensational Kids is an innovative, award winning social enterprise positively impacting the lives thousands of children with additional needs throughout Ireland. Established in 2007, Sensational Kids operates as a child development centre, providing three key offerings for children and their families; subsidised services for children in need of additional support, a child development and learning store providing a range of skill building toys and therapy products, and professional development training workshops for those working with children with special needs. Collectively, these services are ensuring that the children benefitting from them can improve their skills and maximise their potential. Since 2009 Sensational Kids has directly supported 4,500 children from all over Ireland at our Leinster Child Development Centre.
The Hive, Kildare Town Youth Hub, opened its doors in September 2015. Gaps in relation to youth provision were identified by local community leaders and state agencies as part of the establishment of the Integrated Services Programme (ISP) in Kildare Town in 2010. Funding was secured to refurbish the old Post Office premises from a range of sources, with primary funding coming from Kildare County Council & Department of Children and Youth Affairs, with other funds coming through Tusla. The Hive targets young people aged 10-25 years through a range of youth activities, services and programmes. There are approximately 100 young people using the facility on a weekly basis.
Jack and Jill Foundation
The Jack & Jill Foundation provides nursing care and support for children with severe neurological development issues, as well as offering some respite to the parents and families. Jack & Jill also provides direct funding to families, enabling them to buy home respite care to give them a break. The Foundation cannot cure the children. But it can help to alleviate some of the difficulties that exist. Jack & Jill rely on donations to provide for the nearly €3 million per year that it takes to offer these services.
KARE provides support to people who have an intellectual disability and their families. We were founded in 1967 and work in mid and south Kildare, east Offaly, west Wicklow and northeast Carlow. KARE believes that people with an intellectual disability are important and should be a part of their community like everyone else.
